The potential for an earthquake does exist in Yuma. If a major earthquake were to occur, AWC must be prepared to provide its own resources for an unlimited period of time. It is always a good idea to maintain certain supplies in your office (see "Introduction" for details).

If Inside:
1)    STAY INSIDE! Do NOT run outside during the quake. (DO NOT USE ELEVATORS!).
2)    Take cover underneath a desk or table, protecting your head and neck.
3)    Stay away from windows and objects that could fall on you.
4)    Once the quake is over, leave building and go to the safe zones, stay away from trees and poles.
5)    Be prepared for aftershocks.
6)    Authorized personnel will announce if it is safe to return to your building.

If Outside:
1)    Run to an area away from trees, buildings, walls and power lines.
2)    Drop to your knees and get into a fetal position, close your eyes and cross your arms over the back of your neck for protection.
3)    Stay in a fetal position until the shaking stops.
4)    Once quake is over go to safe zone.

After Shaking Stops:
1)    Do NOT use regular or cellular telephones EXCEPT to report serious injuries.
2)    Be prepared to evacuate. Go to the safe zones.
3)    Assist in the building evacuation of persons with special needs.
4)    Tune portable radios to an Emergency Broadcast Station (EBS), and follow instructions given.
5)    Call the AWC Campus Police Department or authorized personnel will provide instructions for immediate action.
6)    Do NOT enter any building for any reason unless authorized to do so by a member of the Emergency Response Team.

The Director of Facilities will determine and announce that a building(s) are safe to re-enter.
